Cat House Volunteer

The Rocky Mountain Siamese Rescue Cat House, located in Superior, CO just off of the Boulder Turnpike, is in need of your help! The Cat House is open from 12 - 5 pm, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and we need folks to staff the Cat House during those times to answer questions from adopters, assist in adoptions, provide care to the cats and kittens there, and to help maintain cleanliness in the house. We also need folks to drop by for an hour or two on specific weekdays to care for the cats that are there awaiting adoption - litter pans need to be scooped, food and water refreshed, dishes washed, floors swept/mopped, etc. If you can help with this, it may be our number one need right now, so please let us know if you have any questions or wish to help.

Fostering

A foster parent provides temporary housing for homeless meezers until we can find them their forever home. Foster parents are responsible for ensuring that the foster cats in their care receive required veterinary care and are also responsible for turning in paperwork related to the cats in their care. A foster parent's duties are as follows:

Foster homes must be approved by the Center. There is an application (PDF/Word), screening and approval process. Access to email on a daily basis is a must. Foster families need to have MS Word software or access to a fax machine in order to fax needed forms and documents to the Director. Fosters must be able to meet deadlines when scheduling vet appointments and turning in paperwork. They must have good organizational skills and the ability to maintain excellent paperwork files on the cats in their care. Foster parents need to be familiar with the Center's adoption policies so that they can effectively share information with potential adopters.

Transport Volunteers

Transportation volunteers are a very important part of the rescue process and your willingness to come to the aid of a Meezer that needs a ride on an occasional basis will be most appreciated! It could be as easy as picking a cat up at a shelter and taking it to its new foster home, shuttling pets to and from an event, taking a cat from a shelter or foster home to a vet, or as involved as moving a cat from out of town/state to its foster home or new forever home once they are adopted. The cats are always transported in cat carriers. If a cat or cats are being transported over a long distance, there may be other volunteers driving "legs" of the journey and meeting up to hand off the cat or cats.A transport volunteer must have a valid driver's license and have a vehicle in good running order with a functioning heater in winter and air-conditioning during the summer months. The vehicle must be insured and have proof of insurance. Volunteers are encouraged to keep track of their mileage — since RMSR is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, mileage is tax deductible.

Event Volunteers

Rocky Mountain Siamese Rescue holds many events each year to get exposure for our important cause and the cats in our program and to sell fundraising items. We are always in need of volunteers to help out at these events. Events range from simple information tables at Petsmart and Petco where cats looking for homes are available to greet the public to information and retail booths at festivals.

Special Event Planning Volunteers

Rocky Mountain Siamese Rescue holds many events a year to get exposure for our important cause and the cats in our program and to sell fundraising items. We are always in need of volunteers to help with planning/organizing these events and to look for other event opportunities. Events range from information tables at Petsmart and Petco where cats looking for homes are there to greet the public to information and retail booths at festivals.

Interviewers

We need telephone interviewers to help us process our adoption and volunteer applications in a timely manner. We provide training and support and have specific scripts you will follow, but independent thinking comes in handy, also. We can provide phone cards to help with your expenses, or if you choose to you can keep a record of your calls and write them off as a tax deduction.

Fundraising/Marketing

RMSR is in need of some folks to help us raise more funds and to market our organization effectively. Our adoption fees rarely cover the costs of getting each cat ready for adoption, so in order to continue in our mission, we need outside help.
